Halloween 2013

I am a lover of Halloween and trick-or-treating. I think it's just an awesome thing for kids to be able to dress up and eat copious amounts of candy that normally they would get in trouble for. And I love seeing all the fun/creative/elaborate/scary costumes out there!

This year, since Addy asked for a Care Bears birthday party, I thought it would be fun to dress her as a Care Bear. After bidding on six different costumes on EBay - some Cheer Bear and some Grumpy Bear - I finally won a listing. Size 3T-4T Cheer Bear, and there was not an inch to spare on my tall daughter!

We were lucky enough to go trick-or-treating twice. The first time out, with her friend Lilah, Addy was a little timid and very slow, and she often tried to take more than one piece. After about 30 minutes, she said, "I have enough candy. Let's go home now." We kept going, but we took turns carrying her between houses. Of course, cuteness is all around whenever she and Lilah get together.

The second time out, Addy really had the hang of it. She'd go running up to the porches, she'd pick what kind of candy she wanted, and she'd take only one. She really had a lot of fun, but still was ready to call it quits pretty early on.

Cheer Bear got rave reviews throughout both neighborhoods, with many people saying it was the best costume they'd seen! Personally, I think it's time for the Care Bears to make an official comeback for Addy's generation (-: Here are a few more shots of my precious little Cheer Bear:

I told her to strike a pose for the picture, but she instead made up her own little cheer. Priceless!

Enjoying the fruits of her labor.

The biggest stuffed animal of the bunch!

Totally Cute Tuesday

We made a trip to Aunt Steph's house to drop off food. Addy quickly made herself at home.

Recent Coversations

I'm trying to do a better job of recording funny, interesting, and surprising things Addy says. Here are a few snippets from the past week or so.

On the way to the YMCA, the car in front of me made a quick turn, causing the tires to squeal...
Addy: "What was that?"
Me: "The tires on the car in front of us squealed."
Addy: "Yeah, he was going TOO fast. That's what that was."

I was rounding up Addy's dirty clothes for laundry time, and I picked up a shirt that didn't look remotely dirty. I reached for a hanger...
Addy: "That has peaches on it."
Me: "No, there's no peaches silly, that's an owl."
Addy: "No, there's peaches on it!"
Me: "I'm confused..."
Addy: "I spilled peaches on my dress and daddy took it off. There's peaches on it. It's dirty. It 'longs in the basket."

I handed Addy my phone to play her games on...
"Thanks mom. You're my BEST mommy."

Addy had just added water to her instant oatmeal and was stirring it up. I grabbed her blanket and began walking toward the living room...
Addy: "Wait! I can hold my blankie and you can carry me!"
(I pick her up) "Here, take my oatmeal please. Be careful. Don't get my blankie all oatmealy!"

Addy was sorting through her Halloween candy and found a box of nerds. As matt opened the box, Addy says, "Can I have some? Can I chew them...in my belly?" all while nodding her head in affirmation.

We bought a new vacuum because ours died. Matt was assembling the new one...
"I'm gonna help you fix the vacuum, Daddy. 'Cuz it's lots of work."

Matt (acting like a robot) was holding Addy up to see in the mirror so she could watch herself brush her teeth...
"Daddy Robot, I'm beautiful. I have a bow! And hair, and a nose, and, ummmmm, eyes. Yeah, yeah."

Totally Cute Tuesday

I got my wisdom teeth removed today, and spent most of the day alone in our secluded office above the garage, icing my face and sleeping on and off. Addy came up to visit a few times, and was very nurturing toward me - she lightly caressed my arm, gave me gentle hugs and kisses, and told me she loved me. She also said, "Mommy, can I lay here and cuddle with you under this blanket? It's very soft. You will feel better." The result is today's Totally Cute Tuesday picture:

And she was right; that super rare cuddle with my baby girl made me feel better!

All in a day's work

The other night, I happened upon a status update and string of comments on Facebook from a soon-to-be mother that said she could never be a SAHM because she'd be so bored. While I can agree that some days are boring, things can get mundane, my brain isn't often stimulated and challenged, and I miss adult conversation, the job as a whole is ANYTHING but boring. Here's what we did today:

 - Had a time-out before breakfast was even served, and another before the day was over
 - One load of laundry (Addy puts all the dirty clothes into the washer, and I hand her wet clothes to put into the dryer)
 - Pulled weeds in the front flowerbeds
 - Dug dirt and carefully explored a defunct bees nest in the ground
 - Washed dishes (Addy washes all plastic items and cutlery except steak knives, and then I have to wash them again)
 - Watched the Curious George episode about the wind symphony, then scoured the house to build and/or find musical instruments so we could play our own symphony. We then had a recital when Matt came home for lunch
 - Played Super Mommy/Super Addy (with her blankie draped on our backs) and chased away Lions and Dragons
 - Put away all her toys in the playroom since it was left in shambles from the previous day
 - Assembled the last three bookshelves to be hung in her bedroom
 - Went for a walk and gathered leaves in preparation for a fall craft to do another day
 - Scrolled Pinterest together to find a craft to do, and made craft stick Scarecrows

 - Made a batch of moldable frosting to experiement for her birthday cake decorating. She told me to color a ball red and she colored a ball green
 - Doctored a bloody boo-boo on the bottom of her foot because she stepped on something sharp on my bedroom floor
 - Ended the day with cuddling on the couch, and listening to her tell Matt all about her day when he got home late from work at 7:30

See? Anything but boring. Of course not every day is like this, but more or less, this is what it's all about. It's not for everyone, I get that. But it's for me.

Kingsway Pumpkin Farm...

...a.k.a. THE BEST OUTING EVER! I feel totally cheated that I never knew about this place before this year, yet so so so happy I found out about it before Addy is too old to enjoy it. Kingsway Pumpkin Farm is completely built for a three year old. Here's a list of the goodies to explore and pictures of our time there:

 - a barrell train ride just for the little ones
 - hayrides (though we weren't there at a time they were running)
 - a giant enclosed slide shooting off the back of a firetruck
 - a giant pyramid with a slide
 - a huge black cat to climb
 - playground equipment and a sandbox
 - water pump duck racing
 - an enclosed area where every plastic toddler vehicle known to man goes to die
 - intricate barn/shed props, such as the Old Schoolhouse (my favorite)
 - a petting zoo with calfs, goats, pigs, sheep, ducks, and more
 - a simple straw tunnel for little kids to go through
 - a huge playbox of dried corn with a slide ending in the corn
 - beautiful pumpkins and plenty of fall candies and goodies for sale

The day was made even better because Grandma was there with us. We don't often have family members joining us for our weekday outings, so that was a super special treat! I do not think I have laughed so hard and watched my daughter enjoy something so much as I did this day. Here is my absolute favorite clip of the day:
