It's Apple Picking Time!

Today we visited Bauman Orchards in Rittman with a few of our friends. It was a splendid day for apple picking! I had never been to an apple orchard, so I didn't really know what to expect. I was picturing a field full of huge trees, with apples strewn about the ground, and ladders leaning on the trunks to climb up and pick apples. I was way off! This orchard looked more like a vineyard to me, with long rows of small and slender apple trees. The apples grow as close to a few inches from the ground, so no ladders needed! We made our way down two of the rows, but the noon heat sent us heading for the car a little early. I would love to go back on the crisp fall day and spend some more time.

I bought 12 apples and spent $2.50. The cost of gas aside, it was a really inexpensive trip for a fun and memorable experience! Addy loved examining the apples, taking her fair share of "taste test" bites, and picking grass by the handfuls.

"I want this apple right here!"

"Mmmmmm, tasty!"

I'm so glad my friend Alyssa had planned the outing and we were available to go. I'm really looking forward to many great outdoor activities for fall - hayrides, petting zoos, halloween! This is the best time of year in Ohio!
